Chinook's Alladin of Alyeska

foto: Valuiki of Cold River, '42, he was a famus brother to Bugs and one of the foundation dogs of the breed.

I 1950 parres U-Chee med Alladin, som bl.a. gav Alaskan's Cheechee of Anadyr.

Alladin gjorde endnu en parring i 1950, denne gang med Natasha, efter Yaddam of Husky Haven ud af Dirka of Anadyr, hun fik bl.a. Nabesna of Polaris, breeder Myrlie Fortuny. Nabesna fik senere stor indflydelse på Anadyr kennelens avl.

Yaddam of Husky Haven og hans søster Ava blev også to meget vigtige hunde for Anadyr kennelen.

Alladin sidste indflydelsesrige kuld fødtes i 1954. En tæve efter T-Serko of Anadyr ud af Billkoff of Gatineau, Papka of Ananen, parres med Alladin og gav bl.a. Alaskan's Sestra of Anadyr og Alaskan's Tawny Lad of Anadyr.

Tawny Lad gav Alaskan's Lass of Anadyr, moren til Alaskan's Tannik of Anadyr, han ligger bl.a. bag kennel Vargevass' Peik..

Chinook's Alladin of Alyeska, 1944, var efter Czar of Alyeska ud af Tcheeakio of Alyeska.
Czar, '41, efter Wolfe of Seppala ud af Cheenah of Alyeska, '34, (Sepp III - Cheeak of Alyeska).
Tcheeakio, '38, efter Belford's Wolf (Smoky-Tosca) ud af Cheeak of Alyeska.
Cheeak of Alyeska, '32, var Shorty' vigtige avlstæve. August 1932.

On Alladins homeside Natalie Norris tells: "Alladin worked as single-lead in the period from 1947 - '53, with out missing a single race."

"Alladin was a nicely proportioned 48 pound male with a foxy head and a coat of correct length and texture. What set this dog apart was his steadiness in harness and the ability to transfer his work ethic to his teammates. When he was in lead the team performed at a higher level..."

"As a pacesetter, Alladin was at his best after the first few miles. He was not the fastest on the team but was the engine once the team settled. He passed on this work ethic to his progeny..."

Tserko og Kreevanka

foto: SAPSUK OF SEPPALA, by TSERKO out of DUSHKA (a BONZO daughter), was born 3 July 1931 at the Wheeler kennels. He was sold to Cold River Kennels and became their main lead dog. He is shown here with his owner Millie Turner. SAPSUK was a famous dog in his day; as well as being a Cold River mainstay, he sired crucial stock (e.g., TOSKA OF WONALANCET) for the Seeleys.

From the book of Bob Thomas, The Siberian Husky: "In 1930 Seppala Arranged for the last importation of stock directly from Siberia. Arriving in Maine, via Alaska, in 1930 were the eight animals. Unfortunately five of them died of Leptospirosis. Only three males survived - Kreevanka, Tserko and Volchok. Volchok does not appear in any of today's pedigrees, so only Kreevanka and Tserko have endured."

"Bonzo was Seppala's main leader during the racing era of 1927 - 32. As mentioned earlier, Fritz was often used by Elizabeth. Tserko, the import, also devoloped into a leader, but Kreevanka was strictly a team dog (in an interviuw with Dr. Charles Belford in may, 1993 he related that Tserko was the harder driving of the two dogs. The Belford's kept and ran both dogs from there kennel in the mid 1930's.)"

...

"Alec Belford and his son Charlie acquired their first Siberians from the Seppala-Ricker kennel in 1929, being the first to get dogs from that kennel. The acquisition of those dogs has lead to a 64 year (as of 1993) association between the Siberian and Dr. Charles Belford. In addition to their influence during the early years (pre WWII), Dr. Belford has won more races with an All-Siberian team than any other musher - 57 of 64 races entered!"

...

"The folowing years saw the arrival of the Siberian imports Kreevanka and Tserko....."

"Alec Belford raced the main team through 1935. On his team were many of the important dogs of our breed. Tserko and Nansen (a Bonzo son) ran lead, with team dogs the likes of Kreevanka, Belford's Wolf, and Sapsuk of Seppala, who eventually became the foundation stud at Cold River Kennels. Although he didn't race them on his team, Dr. Belford did drive these dogs during training. He remembers Tserko as an outstanding dog, very hard driving and also an excellent leader. Krevanka was a little softer dog, and wasn't used as lead. Dr. Belford stated that these characteristics carried over to there offspring, and he preferred the Tserko pups. Tserko and Kreevanka went back to Harry Wheeler's after the 1935 season, where they lived out their lives."

Kreevanka did severel litters with Tosca, in the period of 1932 - '35, on Wheeler's kennel (Of Seppala).

The litter from 1932 were specially, Bilka (Chuchi of Seppala, '35) and Dushka II (Surgut -, '35 and Charney of Seppala, '41), yoused in bred later.

From the litter next year, Molinka II (Vodka -,Burka -, '36 and Katrinka of Seppala, '39) and Vanka (F. Lovejoy, Monadnock kennel) were yoused in bred.

Burka, from 1934, did a later bred who gave two good dogs, Bugs and Valuiki of Cold River, '42, for Marie "Millie" Turner-Resnick.

And finaly, in 1935, Tosca gave birth to two fine males, Kingeak II (Ilona -, '37, N'ya N'ya -, '39, Dina -, '43, Zarina III -, '45, Vixen - and Zephyr Bisson of Seppala, '38) and Vanka II (Shearer; Foxstand's Rombo, -Shango, -Sukey, -Colleen, '40, Mitya of Monadnock, '41, Helen - and Duchess of Cold River, Millie Tutner, '42).

Severel of the females after Kreevanka and Tosca (used in bred) were sired by Tserko.

Togo

foto: Daniel and Vivi with Grynna and Vacke (the retired team), Gludsted, march.

Togo was an exceptionel sleddog with a great personalety. Born 1915 or '16 (died 1929) by Leonhard and Constance Seppala, Little Creek, Alaska.

It happens now and then that big stars were failed to see. Togo was a small dog with a undiscovered big hart, who only beated for hard- and intelligence sleddog-work.

When Togo was about 8 months old, Seppala went out on a trip in early dark morning, leaving him at home. In matter of the high speed Seppala wondered if there were reindeer on the track, but first when the daylight came, Seppala saw it was Togo running in front of his team.

Then the little breakaway-dog were put on the team in wheel, nearest Seppala so he cut keep an eye on him. But after short time Seppala put him one place forward and after a while Togo ran in front as leaddog.

Seppala tells in his book: "I was immensely pleased with this new discovery, realizing that I had found a natural-born leader, something I had tried for years to breed - a new leader with great speed and endurance.... From that day on it was Togo who was the favorite and the one who could always be depended upon."

"The Serum Drive (winter 1925) was Togo's last long run. In that drive he had worked his hardest and best. I appreciated this, and tried to take the best possible care of the old dog... For the first time in twelve years I hit the trail without Togo." (From the book: Seppala - Alaskan Dog Driver)

From the book of Bob Thomas, The Siberian Husky: "It is also interesting to note that Togo did race in New England. Sepp's Eskimo handler Theodore Kingeak ran the second string team of Siberians in 1927. At the 1927 Poland Springs race, Kingeak's team was led by the 12 ear old Togo, placing 6th out of 7 teams (Elizabeth Ricker was 7th)." The winning team was Leonhard Seppala....

Togo, after Suggen and out of Dolly (import), did 3 importent litters. In '24 he breeded Nome and she gave birth to Toto, Paddy and Molinka. In '27 he breeded Rosie and she gave birth to Kingeak and Ammorre, the last is Sepp III (dam un.).

Nome is not in family to Togo or Harry/Kolyma in 3 generations. It was the onliest litter Nome got, who still exsist in our siberian huskies.

Suggen gave also another dog, but not so well know'n as Togo. Her name was Vasta and she were out af Nellie (Nelly) an import bitch from the Anadyr area in Siberia.Vasta were matted by Scotty and did a fine lead dog, hes name was Jack Frost. He was an importent stud dog behind the Northern Light kennel, by Julian Harley.

Season Greatings 2011

foto (by Ove Jensen): The sun heating - spring is coming. Gludsted 8. marts. The team from left: Seppe and Vince, Tanna - Bree, Dolly - Isa, Juno - Wilma (wheel), Kaise and her littermate Kebne (wheel).

Harry Wheeler, 1930-'50 (Kennel: Of Seppala), Quebec, Canada.

Wheller' to første hunde var Kingeak, 25.3. De to fik et kuld født 1. september, 1930.

Sigrid of Seppala føder i '32 og '34 to vigtige avlhanner, Bonanza (Wheeler) og Wolfe (Shorty, Alyeska), efter Smokey of Seppala.

Guina føder Fidelaine Decare of Saint Jovite, '40, efter Zephyr Bisson of Seppala, br: Stouder Thompson.

Sigrid of Seppala føder endnu en vigtig avlshan, Zephyr Bisson of Seppala, '38, efter Kingeak of Seppala II.

Bisson parrer sin egen datter, Fidelaine og giver Zephyr Decare of Saint Jovite, '41, br: Stouder Thompson, ejer John Jackson.

I 2013, altså om 2 år, er det 100 år siden Leonhard Seppala startede sit arbejde med, "the small rats from Siberia", den senere benævnte Siberian Husky.
