Tserko og Kreevanka

foto: SAPSUK OF SEPPALA, by TSERKO out of DUSHKA (a BONZO daughter), was born 3 July 1931 at the Wheeler kennels. He was sold to Cold River Kennels and became their main lead dog. He is shown here with his owner Millie Turner. SAPSUK was a famous dog in his day; as well as being a Cold River mainstay, he sired crucial stock (e.g., TOSKA OF WONALANCET) for the Seeleys.

From the book of Bob Thomas, The Siberian Husky: "In 1930 Seppala Arranged for the last importation of stock directly from Siberia. Arriving in Maine, via Alaska, in 1930 were the eight animals. Unfortunately five of them died of Leptospirosis. Only three males survived - Kreevanka, Tserko and Volchok. Volchok does not appear in any of today's pedigrees, so only Kreevanka and Tserko have endured."

"Bonzo was Seppala's main leader during the racing era of 1927 - 32. As mentioned earlier, Fritz was often used by Elizabeth. Tserko, the import, also devoloped into a leader, but Kreevanka was strictly a team dog (in an interviuw with Dr. Charles Belford in may, 1993 he related that Tserko was the harder driving of the two dogs. The Belford's kept and ran both dogs from there kennel in the mid 1930's.)"

...

"Alec Belford and his son Charlie acquired their first Siberians from the Seppala-Ricker kennel in 1929, being the first to get dogs from that kennel. The acquisition of those dogs has lead to a 64 year (as of 1993) association between the Siberian and Dr. Charles Belford. In addition to their influence during the early years (pre WWII), Dr. Belford has won more races with an All-Siberian team than any other musher - 57 of 64 races entered!"

...

"The folowing years saw the arrival of the Siberian imports Kreevanka and Tserko....."

"Alec Belford raced the main team through 1935. On his team were many of the important dogs of our breed. Tserko and Nansen (a Bonzo son) ran lead, with team dogs the likes of Kreevanka, Belford's Wolf, and Sapsuk of Seppala, who eventually became the foundation stud at Cold River Kennels. Although he didn't race them on his team, Dr. Belford did drive these dogs during training. He remembers Tserko as an outstanding dog, very hard driving and also an excellent leader. Krevanka was a little softer dog, and wasn't used as lead. Dr. Belford stated that these characteristics carried over to there offspring, and he preferred the Tserko pups. Tserko and Kreevanka went back to Harry Wheeler's after the 1935 season, where they lived out their lives."

Kreevanka did severel litters with Tosca, in the period of 1932 - '35, on Wheeler's kennel (Of Seppala).

The litter from 1932 were specially, Bilka (Chuchi of Seppala, '35) and Dushka II (Surgut -, '35 and Charney of Seppala, '41), yoused in bred later.

From the litter next year, Molinka II (Vodka -,Burka -, '36 and Katrinka of Seppala, '39) and Vanka (F. Lovejoy, Monadnock kennel) were yoused in bred.

Burka, from 1934, did a later bred who gave two good dogs, Bugs and Valuiki of Cold River, '42, for Marie "Millie" Turner-Resnick.

And finaly, in 1935, Tosca gave birth to two fine males, Kingeak II (Ilona -, '37, N'ya N'ya -, '39, Dina -, '43, Zarina III -, '45, Vixen - and Zephyr Bisson of Seppala, '38) and Vanka II (Shearer; Foxstand's Rombo, -Shango, -Sukey, -Colleen, '40, Mitya of Monadnock, '41, Helen - and Duchess of Cold River, Millie Tutner, '42).

Severel of the females after Kreevanka and Tosca (used in bred) were sired by Tserko.

Supposly the oldest was Scotty (a. 1912), he was leader for Seppala in hes three All Alaskan Sweepstakes in 1915, '16 and '17, wich Seppala all won. Scotty' sire is Basco (Basko) and Scotty gave one importent litter, were from Thor were yoused in breed, (dam un.). Thor was grand grand sire to Kolyma.

In December 1922 Scotty sired a Suggen daugther, this litter gave among others Jack Frost, '23, wich was behind Northern Light kennel, dam Vasta, after Suggen out of Nellie (Nelly) imp. from Anadyr. Siiberia, by Seppala.

Fritz:

Dolly was also dam to another fine leader, Fritz, born 1915, he was also drived by Seppala. In 1917 AAS, he was leader on Victor Anderson' team, who tok the second place after Seppala. Fritz's sire was Sepp and Fritz wass sire to Harry.

The most famous of thise three dogs is Togo (1915 or 1916), He was Seppala' natural born leader. Togo' last long run was "The Serum Run" in 1925. He and Fritz were taken to New England, by Seppala, in 1927. The same year Rosie were sired by Togo and gave Kingeak and Ammorra. Togo was after Suggen.

The second importent dog was Ugruk, after Kaka out of Maya.

Suggen:

Suggen was a faithful leader for Seppala and Suggen gave an exelent top dog in Togo and also Vasta. Suggen was after Ugruk, a dog I only know about that he gave 2 importent dogs.

Shika:

Shika was also after Ugruk. Shika gave Harry, '15, who was after Fritz.
